Early Spring Clean-Tips on organizing your life and mind

Last week I was feeling a very big block when it came to blogging and even cooking/baking/creating anything for my blog. I just felt that there was so much “stuff” around my house and in my mind. I decided to put out the intention that I would start to declutter and organize my home and my life. I started early in the week and started small. I grabbed a bunch of bags that had taken over my closet and started to go through mail and receipts (the worst of all the cleaning in my opinion) and it snowballed from there. An important piece of advice is to balance your day if you are cleaning. Sometimes I start to clean and fill boxes to donate and then I go to another room and start and hours later I am frustrated and exhausted. Here are some tips on getting the clutter out of your home and out of your mind! If you are a sensitive person/empath or get easily overwhelmed, it is good to practice organization and simplicity. Your mind is free and clear to focus on the fun and creative part we love about life. We can then feel at peace and move forward instead of getting bogged down and depressed at this time of the year when the sun doesn’t show as much as we would like it.

TTPS ON ORGANIZING YOUR LIFE AND MIND!

1. Start with a list or plan for removing items from your home, car, garage, office, etc.
Empaths tend to get overly ambitious and then exhausted and overwhelmed before anything has been started. Making a list is a way to take action, put out intention and have a game plan ready when you have the time to start your cleaning.

2. Keep your day balanced.
Although many of us tend to be pressed for time with a job all week and only 2 short days on the weekend, be sure to take the time to remove yourself from your cleaning/organizing process by taking a walk to clear your mind or leaving your cleaning space to return to it later.

3. Start small.
I know that my fellow empaths like to be over the top and get it all done swiftly and with precision, which can be done, but we often wear ourselves out too quickly. Then the next time we are needing to clean, we remember how the previous cleaning session felt and aren’t motivated at all. We even cringe thinking of it. Start in one room, a closet maybe, and work from there. If you are like me and like to see clean space immediately, take bags and boxes and remove the items that need to be sorted through and take them to a larger room. One messy room to be sorted is better than 5. Do what you can for the day. It’s ok to take several weeks to work on your project.

4. Look into organizing books at the library and online.
There are many ideas for organizing your home and spaces that are specific to you. Choose what book or photo works best for you and use that as a visual for the outcome. I like to pile everything into a box, clothes hamper or bags and move it into one room. Then when my space is cleared, I can think easier and see progress. I can then decide where I want to rearrange items according to how I use them and when I might need them.

5. Have Fun!
Louise Hay talks about how sometimes when we get into the cleaning of our lives, it feels so messy and tends to get messier but when it is all done, the result is peaceful and wonderful. Listen to music or inspirational audio book while working, order food from your favorite restaurant to be delivered, buy a new item after your finished to add to your new way of life. Celebrate that you are making wonderful changes for your home and for your mind! I bought a new lamp that was much needed to sit on the table in my kitchen.

You can do this! You will feel so much better getting ready of old energy. If you are inspired by the weather like I was, then go with it. Or if you are just wanting a change in your life, it can be done. We finished the weekend with several large boxes taken to Salvation Army and the house felt so light when we returned. I had taken everything out of the kitchen and steam mopped, cleaned all of the cat mats and bowls and it was lovely. Now, I still have many more boxes to go through but just taking that little step has freed me up for more playful thoughts and actions.

Need more support? Call a friend to hang with your and help you donate boxes of old items. You can release the old energy together. Try using some positive affirmations if you are wanting to hold onto old items that you really don’t need. The universe will hear you!
-“I am willing to let go of the past.”
-“I happily release the things that I no longer need” (so that others may benefit from them)
-“I only keep the things that are good for me.”
-“I let go of the old to welcome new wonderful things into my life.”

Let me know how your spring cleaning goes and what items you find yourself having a hard time letting go of when donating. I had a rough time letting go of this old,way too small, fleece pullover. It was gross and I hadn’t worn it all year. It’s long gone now and although thoughts popped up today about how I could possibly still run to the donation center and rummage through the boxes to find it, I stopped myself and remembered this is all for my highest good.

Happy Fat Tuesday!

Hey all! I feel like I have let you down because I make the best BEST version of a Paczki donut but I was really busy this week and did not have time to blog about it. I didn’t even have time to make them for myself because, as usual, life snuck up on me. Please check out this recipe for Jelly Donut Cupcakes from Elana’s Pantry. You will want to make them…and eat them all! I love them cold and maybe, just maybe, I will find time this week to make some for myself. Eat up folks but keep it clean!

What’s for dinner?

I ask my preschool kids this everyday. I don’t know why. I suppose it’s just small talk like when you ask someone how they are doing. Sometimes you don’t hear the answer but it’s almost like you are saying “hey, how are ya?”. Anyway, their answers are always spaghetti. I can relate because sometimes after working as a preschool teacher by day and health counselor in the evening, I am pooped so I am looking to make something easy in the evening. Lord knows if I left it up to bf then it would be frozen pizza or oatmeal (sometimes it is). I really only have time to make new meals and experiment on the weekends. This year I decided to make a greater effort to share my love of food with everyone and finally all of the pieces are coming together so that I can do that. It’s slowly but surely coming along and….I love it. If I had to do one thing for the rest of my life, it would be to make food for people. I love to put ingredients together and create and for me, it’s all about the presentation. I love to celebrate holidays and have themed food to go along with the decor of a party. I love it all! Now, if my pesky jobs wouldn’t get in the way of that now. I am truly grateful to have a job that I love but I don’t want to do it forever. I would rather be in my kitchen with my apron, spatula and notebook experimenting much like a scientist with his beakers and lab coat. Yes, that’s me. Of course, I love to eat the food too. I suppose that would be the job I would pick, to be a professional food taster, then baker/cook/blogger would come in close second. So, what’s for dinner tonight? For me, frozen organic ravioli, salad with organic sprouts and steamed broccoli. Not too creative but easy, clean and still delicious. You gotta do what you gotta do when you are a hard working lady.
In other news…here is a picture of a cat (my baby. rescued feral. Leela aka Baby Lee)

Almond Butter S’mores Bars

In honor of National S’mores Day, I am sharing a very delicious recipe with you! I actually have been wanting to make these S’more bars FOREVER and thought I might wait to blog about it in the fall. I saw that it was National S’mores Day and couldn’t really hold off much longer. The new grocery we have in town, has gelatin free marshmallows that are also Non-GMO! Could it get any better? YES because all of the ingredients I used were clean and these bars are every campers dream.

I know that not everyone has the time or space to enjoy an original s’more treat so this is perfect for you! I actually received a fire ring for my birthday this year so we have made s’mores a few times this summer. I grew up in the country so this bring back a lot of good childhood memories. These bars are perfect for picnics, parties, get togethers, back to school treats, etc. The list really goes on and on. I threw in a little twist by adding almond butter and…well…you just have to make them to understand!!!

Almond Butter S’more Bars
12 bars

1 stick of organic butter -melted and cooled
1/4 cup almond butter
1/4 cup coconut sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 organic egg
3/4 cup whole wheat pastry flour
1 1/2 cups organic graham crackers-broken into small pieces
1 cup organic chocolate chips
1 cup gelatin free mini marshmallows

Line an 8 x 8 baking pan with aluminum foil and spray with organic olive oil or coconut oil. You will want to do this because the marshmallow is going to stick to the sides of the pan.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a pan with the melted and cooled butter, add almond butter, coconut sugar, vanilla extract and egg. Mix well.

Add whole wheat pastry flour. Mix until combined.

Add the chocolate chips, marshmallows and graham cracker pieces. Fold into the batter.

Easy Caprese

Ooooh Caprese Salad is one of my favorite summer dishes and I have been making it for years. I use to grow my own basil for it and thought that made me a regular Martha Stewart until I saw what basil was actually suppose to look like at a local market. It made my basil look so puny. I still enjoyed making it and, of course, eating my Caprese. For this recipe, I used basil infused olive oil that I purchases at a local shop called The Olive Leaf. I also am using a vinegar made by a local artisan. As well as local grown cucumbers that have not been sprayed with pesticides. I LOVE putting together a meal with little details that I appreciate such as local and organic!

I know that in the summer my body craves fresh fruit and vegetables but I also need protein to keep me full and grounded. Trust me, you are going to want to try it!

CAPRESE SALAD

serves 4-6
10 oz  organic grape tomatoes
2 small organic cucumbers
fresh mozzarella- rbst free
2 tbs of basil olive oil
1 tbs of flavored vinegar (I used tart cherry)
1/2 tsp of Himalayan sea salt
1/2 tsp of black pepper

Cut the grape tomatoes in half and cut the cucumbers into bite sizes. Tear the mozzarella with your hands. Place all of the ingredients into the bowl. Toss the salad and season to your preference.

You can eat this salad immediately after making it but I prefer to let it sit overnight or at least for a few hours in the refrigerator. This helps the flavors to come together.
